Fostercare/Offsite Coordinator 

Objective: Responsible for the management and administration of the foster care program and offsite adoptions program. In doing so, improve the health and well being of the animals in our care. In addition, responsible for acquiring, developing and facilitating offsite adoption events in an effort to increase AWA’s presence in the community while increasing adoptions.

Essential Functions of the Foster Care Coordinator:

  • Provide overall oversite to the foster care program.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for the care of shelter animals housed with foster volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit and provide training to foster volunteers.
  • Routinely maintain and update all foster care records.
  • Coordinate the movement of shelter animals into foster care and back into the shelter.
  • Keep in close contact with fosters to monitor the health and behavior of animals and report findings to the medical or behavior staff.
  • Monitor foster care performance and communicate issues to Volunteer Coordinator as needed.
  • Provide and record accurate information for data reporting.
  • Match up animal’s medical or behavioral needs the foster placements abilities.
  • Collaborate with transport, medical and intake staff for placement, return, care and monitoring of all animals in foster program.

Essential Functions of the Offsite Adoption Coordinator:

  • Schedule and manage a variety of offsite adoption events.
  • Meet all adoption goals as set forth.
  • Provide and maintain monthly data and regular reports as needed for data reporting.
  • Place and update all offsite adoption events on AWA’s Activities and Pet Flow calendars.
  • Provide FB and Website manager with monthly schedule of adoption events.
  • Must be engaging of the public at all events and be able to discuss AWA’s mission, values and activities in a positive light.
  • Promote exemplary customer service at all offsite adoption events
  • Able to conduct adoption interviews, evaluate and match potential adopters pursuant to our SOP’s.
  • Complete all adoption paperwork accurately.
  • Collaborate with volunteer coordinator to identify and schedule volunteers for adoption events.
  • Provide training in animal handling, selection of animals, adoptions and all paperwork.
  • Coordinates the placement of foster animals for offsite adoption events.
  • Work with shelter management to select suitable animals for offsite adoption events.
  • Safely handle and transport all animals to and from adoption events. As well as ensuring animals are properly cared for during the offsite adoption events.

Adoption Intake Counselor (part-time)

Objective: Ensure quality customer service to all visitors including animal adopters, and owner surrenders; process and follow up on adoptions, surrender appointments, and pet rehoming support.

Essential Functions:

Adoption & Intake Program

  • Process adoption applications to ensure quality adoption matches
  • Follow organization adoption and intake procedures and policies
  • Work closely with Supervisor, Managers, and Director to achieve goals for department
  • Explain concepts of prerelease sterilization of adopted animals and humane euthanasia
  • Input accurate animal information into PetPoint system including medical records
  • Update all animal adoption folders, kennel cards and messages on a daily basis.
  • Complete adoptions through the PetPoint system
  • Familiarize with all adoption animals to articulate any issues or special needs animals
  • Counsel surrendering owners on animal retention or rehoming
  • Answer questions relating to pet surrenders and provide resources as necessary
  • Observe and monitor adoption meets and ensure proper procedures are followed
  • Participate in developing special adoption promotions as needed
  • Assist in animal care and handling during emergency situations

Front Office and General Functions

  • Immediately greet all visitors in a friendly and timely manner
  • Handle challenging customer service situations and identify when supervisor should be called in
  • Promptly answer all phone calls, take messages and forward as necessary
  • Maintain and promote positive public image
  • Check and respond to all voicemail and e-mail messages
  • Collect and process payments and accurately produce receipts
  • Receive in kind donations according to organization procedures
  • Process waivers and remain aware of all organizational promotions
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of designated adoption space, lobby, and office space

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in business or other related field preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience in customer service field
  • Working knowledge of PetPoint computer system a plus; basic computer system experience required
  • Familiarity with OSHA, state, and federal laws and regulations with regards to animal sheltering, cleaning, and safety

Shelter Treatment Technician

Objective: Assess and monitor overall health, provide initial and routine medications and vaccinations, and determine basic animal information for each shelter animal on intake or as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for daily medical care of shelter animals including daily health checks
  • Administer immunizations, prescribed medicines, deworming, and flea and tick treatments
  • Responsible for provision of food, water, kennel cleaning, and walking of animals in medical care
  • Perform animal bathing, grooming, and nail trimming as needed
  • Explain concept of prepubescent sterilization, prerelease sterilization and humane euthanasia
  • Assists in performance of euthanasia when necessary
  • Provide support to adopters and foster volunteers regarding medical questions or care
  • Input data for animal medical records, treatments, and medicines for all shelter animals
  • Notate animal behavior during medical assessment and report issues to appropriate staff
  • Notify shelter veterinarian in emergent medical situations or deterioration of medical conditions
  • Follow established disease control protocols to clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and general medical areas daily
  • Track and inform manager when inventories are low, stock and organize pharmacy
  • Properly clean, pack, and autoclave all medical/surgical materials
  • Assist with medical education of staff, volunteers, and the public

Animal Care Attendant
AWA is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual with knowledge of animal health, behavior, handling and husbandry. Must be willing to work as part of a collaborative team to properly maintain kennels with thorough cleaning and sanitation protocols. Monitor animals daily and alert medical staff upon signs of illness or injury. Update animal records with accurate information. Provide environmental enrichment for animals as needed. Participate in pet adoption meets. Ability to provide exemplary customer service to adopters and visitors. Must be 18 years of age and able to work weekends. This position is part-time at 25 hours per week.
