M. E. Henry, VMD, Chief Veterinarian
Dr. Henry graduated from Bucknell University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Behavior. She completed her veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 2012. Throughout veterinary school, Dr. Henry enjoyed participating in humane education efforts focusing on dog bite prevention and humane pet ownership; she spent multiple weeks traveling with the HSVMA Field Services (formerly known as RAVS), providing free veterinary care to underserved, rural communities. It wasn't until her third year of veterinary school, when she began volunteering at Philadelphia's Animal Care and Control shelter, that Dr. Henry realized she had found a niche for herself in shelter medicine. She went on to complete a one year intensive internship in shelter medicine at Cornell University, where she spent time working at the university and in local shelters, improving her skills and teaching veterinary students about shelter medicine. Since joining the Animal Welfare Association, Dr. Henry has taken time to continue honing her surgical skills.
While Dr. Henry is interested in all aspects of this field of veterinary medicine, infectious disease control, humane education/outreach, and affordable spay/neuter programs are among her favorites. Outside of work, Dr. Henry is often found going on adventures with her husband, baby and dog, or baking something to bring into work the next day.
